Hey guys. First post.

I'm studying for an exam and I'm having trouble with a review question. Would anybody care to help me out? I can't seem to understand what to do here.

Physicians gave what they thought were drugs to 7000 patients. The doctors later learned that the pills were placebos, but 70% of the patients reported an improvement. Use this information to test (at alpha = 0.05) the placebo effect at the clinic. Assume that if the placebo is ineffective, the probability of a patients condition improving is 0.5.

Any help is appreciated, it's the last question and the one that I don't understand. Would this be possible with minitab also? Thanks.

Hey guys. Just curious why nobody has responded. Does my question not make sense, was the way I explained it confusing?
Thanks.

I believe what you are describing is a simple binomial test. You have 2,100 cases that showed no improvement. You have 4,900 that did. You test this against .5.

I don’t really do minitab but I am sure there is some option for this.
