Methods to find symmetry of dist.

I am asked to use 3 different stat tools to discuss the symmetry of the distribution of a set of given data (a data file with 2 columns). Maybe to do a histogram or box plot, and then find the mean or something?!
I am a Computer Eng. student and have to take this STAT course, and obviously know nothing about it! So any help would be appreciated.

histogram, boxplot, and also compute the skewness of the distribution (use Excel) - a symmetrical distribution will have skewness=0
