I have never taken a course in probability. My teacher recommended me the book

Henk Tijms, Understanding Probability, second edition, Cambridge University Press, 2007

The book was recommended as an excellent introductory text that brings the basic ideas and concepts of probability in a very clear way using examples and problems from everyday life. Does anyone has read this book? Could you share me ideas about the book? Thanks

I find that a classic (Dover) book by Robert Ash, Basic Probability Theory does a great job explaining probability theory. While it seems less mathematical by today's standards, I believe it is more theoretically rich than a lot of modern texts (i.e., Ash can do a good job explaining a graduate level idea in this introduction). I would say check the book out from your library, and maybe others. See what other universities are using and compare their TOCs. Check some out from the library and compare again.

There are also free textbooks out there. See e.g. Introduction to probability (http://www.dartmouth.edu/~chance/teaching_aids/books_articles/probability_book/book.html) and Fundamentals of probability (http://www.statlect.com/fndprb.htm).
