I have a question if the SPSS is able to perform the test similar to the test described in the attched excrept from a book that I am reading now. Really need to be able to perform this type of analysis with my own data. I tried the RUNS test (from the NONPARAMETRIC window) in SPSS but not sure if it is exactly the type of test that the author is referring to..

I will show you how to do it for the swiss franc example
copy and paste the data set at the bottom of the page into SPSS
Notice I am letting 1 be a win and 0 be a loss, Notice it has 20 wins,46
losses and 37 runs.
Now go to Analyze>Non-parametric>runs

set cut point to custom 0.5 and select the variable with the swiss franc data
and I got the same z-score so it must be using the same formula.
