Hi

I am a university student , i have designed and given out a questionnaire with the aim of finding peoples attitudes towartds smacking children with the questions conformin to the likert scale. i collected the data and entered the raw data into spss. ive simply entered in each column 1=strongly agree to 5=strongly disagree (using value labels) to each question but now dont know what to do next. do you have to calculate each persons attitude score? does spss have a function to do this?

really looking for advice on how to analyse the data/enter the data correctly.

thanks any help would be appreciated.

hi,

you can calculate the following provided you have created the one row for each student and you have entered the scale variable in the column
student no name sex attitude
1. *** x 5
2 bbb x 3

1.the median score for attidude (Analyze-> Descriptive Statistics -> Frequencies)
2.You can compare between two groups scores using Mann-whitney tests
(Analyze -> Non parametric test->2 independent samples)
etc
