I have a dilemma. I want to say hi but if my department sees me as a critical value then they probably wouldn't kick me out even if I mess up...

Now I like to be in that position. Mess up big time and still be OK.

Not to worry. Don't get involved in any of their papers and they will never notice :p

Ha. I meant I didn't want to say "hi" (because of the implied threat!)

Welcome Miss Stats,
In null-hypothesis testing, a critical value must be exceeded in order for the the null hypothesis to be rejected. So becoming a critical values sucks, as you are at the border but not yet significant!
I hope this makes me significant. :-P
I would urge you however to leave the null-hypothesis testing behind, and approach us from a more information theoretic point of view. How much can we learn from you and you from us?
Anyway, welcome to the forum and watch out for the raptors.
Happy Posting,

Happy Posting,
OMG I've noticed that i wrote in my 1st reply in this thread
" I will turn you to critical value" I was wrong & I meant "outlier" LOL
i don't know why i wrote critical value!! ;$
anyway, thank you for "welcome me" >>I'll not turn you to an outlier ;p

What's wrong with being an outlier?

The member outlier thinks nothing. Besides it depends if you're z = -1.96 or z = 1.96

Ah! I love outliers! They make analysis more interesting (& sometimes brings a lot of pain too). Stats as a whole would be pretty dry without outliers, given that the purpose of statistics/modelling is to reduce noise!

sometimes when an outlier appears ,it suggested to kick it out of the data ;p

Yuck. Don't go throwing out outliers without a really good reason to do so.
