Trend Analysis

What are the degrees of freedom in trend analysis?
And what goes in the denominator?
Does it matter what type of trend analysis you are doing, or are the df and denominator the same?
This isn't a homework question, I'm just trying to understand a text and notes that really don't explain.

do you know of anyplace that explains doing this with the F table?

Not specifically, but the t test and F test with two groups (i.e., 1 df in the numerator) are basically equivalent.

where I'm lost is that I have written down that the df are (2, n-1) for the F test. I'm not sure where 2 came from for the first df.
