I'm not asking for answers, just which labels should go in the columns heading of excel. (Im thinking the management styles)

A study to determine if management style affects the number of sick days taken by employees was conducted. Three departments (3 different management styles) with the same number of employees were studied. The styles are top-down management, quality teams and Informal Input from employees. The total number of sick days taken per month by all employees in the seperate departments was recorded. For a random sample of 3 months, the numbers follow: (this is how the info looks on paper)

Top-down management 19 34 28
Quality Teams 16 21 15
Informal Input 15 12 14

I want to use a one way ANOVA to test if the mean number of sick days for departments managed in various styles are different. Alpha = 0.05

My question is how to group this into a table to get the right results, such as in excel.

Am I right to assume that the different styles of management is the factor i.e the groups? Should these labels be put into the column headings such as this?

TD QT II
19 16 15
34 21 12
28 15 14

i guess what is confusing me is whether or not I'm testing the means of the different styles of management or the means for the months. How should this be entered into excel or a table? I know how to use excel and interpret the results, Im just asking which should go in the column headings to get the right results, the management styles or the 3 months. Thanks so much.

You're independent variable / factor is management style and has 3 levels/groups/conditions - TD, QT and II. These terms are used interchangeably. But yes, you are correct.

I can't exactly help you with your excel problem on data input format, but I ran the data you posted through SPSS for you. This is what the correct output table should look like if you run a 1-Way Anova based on your data. From here, you can deduce the correct way of inputting data into Excel.

See attached.

Best of luck.

Thanks so much. Yah, when entered this way my excel summary looks similar. I am now ready to finish this problem. Again thanks for your time.
