To perform a certain type of blood analysis the lab tech must perform two procedures. First procedures requires either 1 or 2 steps and the secound procedure requires either 1,2,or 3 steps.

What would be the experimental outcomes?

If the random variable of interest is the total number of steps required to do the complete analysis (both procedures), show what value the random variable will assume for each of the experimental outcomes.

The first procedure is 1 or 2 steps
The second procedure is 1 or 2 or 3 steps

So, the outcomes (total number of steps) are:

1+1
1+2
1+3

2+1
2+2
2+3

I'll let you do the arithmetic......:)
