View Full Version : Interpreting ANCOVAS

I have a tricky interpretation to make... I entered 2 co-variates into my 2x2 analyses, and although I had a significant F value overall, my treatment IVs were non significant. I only had main effects for the co-variates. I realise that as far as my hypotheses go that means the study didn't work. What I am trying to understand is, the pattern of my adjusted means came out exactly as I hypothesised.

How do I interpret an ANCOVA where the expected pattern is driven entirely by co-variates and not by the manipulated IVs? I don't understand how I got the right pattern if there was no effect of my IVs

Thanks in advance!
