Hi All, I am stuck in a problem. It is a hypothesis testing but seems a little hazy to me. Could you please help?
The research wing of a pharmaceutical company conducted an experiment to evaluate the effect of a new drug use. 19 impregnated dam rats were captured and allocated a dosage of 12.5 mg of the drug. One male and one female pup from the resulting litter were randomly selected from each resulting litter to perform in a swim maze: each rat pup is placed in water at one end of the maze and allowed to swim until it reaches the opposite end successfully. The experiment is repeated until three successful escapes are made by each rat pup. The number of swims required by each pup to perform three successful escapes is shown.
Data is below:
Litter Male Female
1 8 5
2 8 4
3 6 7
4 6 3
5 6 5
6 6 3
7 3 8
8 5 10
9 4 4
10 4 4
11 6 5
12 6 3
13 12 5
14 3 8
15 3 4
16 8 12
17 3 6
18 6 4
19 9 5
Questions are :
a) Is there sufficient evidence of a difference between the mean number of swims required by male and female pups with α=0.10? What are the assumption that I need to make?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks!
