    zero inflated poisson distribution

I am new and I hope I'm abiding to the rules.

I just wanted to know what exactly a zero inflated Poisson distribution is? How is it related to the regular Poisson distribution? I've noticed that it has a function when x=0. The regular Poisson has P(X=0) =0. So am I right in saying that it sort of accounts for when 0 events occur?

    Thanks

The regular poisson distribution does not have P(X=0) = 0

The zero inflated distribution is used when there are more observed zeros than expected with the regular poisson distribution.
