    Prob Distribution plot in SPSS

    Hi All

    I am quite surprised that I am not able to get the probability distribution plot in SPSS. I spent quite some time on google and other stuff, but couldn't succeed.

    Suppose I want the Probability Distirbution Plot for the below variable in SPSS. What are the steps to do so?
    I tried the QQ/PP plots, transform/compute options, analyze->descriptive stats->explore options...
    None of them are giving a Bell Curve...How do I get the probability distribution bell curve?

    Just so we're clear. You do realize that your data is nowhere close to a bell curve. A bell curve (normal distribution) is continuous. Your data only has 5 possible values. There is no way you'll get a 'bell curve' from your data. You won't really even get a curve of any kind.

    Re: Prob Distribution plot in SPSS

    Okay. Thank you very much for the reply.

    But I have the following doubts:

    1. How will I get the probability distribution plot (may it be a st line) for this set of values in SPSS?

    2. The above data is for the Awareness question which is an Likert Scale (Interval Scale). As Interval scale is used for continuous data, though I understand that it has only 5 discrete values, does this mean that we cannot get bell plots for Likert Scale data.

    3. When I do a one-sample t-test on this data, I get:
    Mean: 3.4
    Std Dev: 1.13259
    95% Confidence Interval: Lower: 2.9771 Upper: 3.8229

    Now, why cannot I get a bell curve with the mean at 3.4 and these lower and upper limits which constitute the 1.96(SD)?

    It sounds like you actually want a histogram. You can choose that in the Chart Builder. Check the box labeled Display normal curve in the Element Properties panel.
