Population Mean problem

I am having trouble solving this problem

Determine whether the given conditons justify testing a claim about a population mean. The sample size is n = 21, standard deviation is 6.10, and the original population is normally distributed.

I was not sure if I needed to start off by finding a null hypothesis. The formula I was going to use is

z= x - mean (x)/6.10/square root of 21

Please tell me what to do.

It appears that you might have a problem that is asking what conditions must be met in order to test a claim about a population mean. Remember, that a z test is only good when the standard deviation is known (it is), and the original population is normally distributed. Also, your text may suggest that the sample size be above a certain level to justify a test.

Other than this, Its not quite clear from your post what else should be done.
