    R News and Updates

I'm starting this thread out of frustration for my own oversight.

blog.revolutionanalytics.com was having an R webinar today (LINK) that looked insightful and interesting. I remembered it at 10:19, 19 minutes too late

The problem is there's some much R news in so many different places that it's often hard to keep track.

I propose we keep this thread going as a news update for R. Items may include release date for new versions of R, R journal releases, updates to reference cards, webinars, new packages and/or versions. I think that it would be best to limit the reply commenting on this thread as is the case with the Info for R users thread (LINK). We could post R news updates as we come across them from different locations, give a brief description if necessary and a link to the source page/site.

This thread has some crossover with the Info for R users thread and ITT: Recommend a package but I see it as a compliment to these threads. For instance if someone posts an interesting new package release this should also be shared on the ITT: Rec. a pack. thread as well but in more detail or if a new version of a manual or reference card becomes available we should also post that to the Info for R users thread, again, in more detail.

This thread will be more of a news ticker to avoid the frustration I experienced in missing the webinar today. If you all like it and it takes off great. If it doesn't take off I'll assume this was a dumb idea and put news reminders on my google calendar (though I should have done this anyway).

New package ISOweek: Week of the year and weekday according to ISO 8601
ISOweek is a small package which contains functions to substitute the %V and
%u formats which are not implemented on Windows.
In addition, the package offers functions to convert from standard calender
format yyyy-mm-dd to ISO 8601 week format yyyy-Www-d and vice versa.

Your link actually links to a local file on the machine so if we don't have the file in the assumed location we can't get to it.

Just FYI on a related note: I like joining R users groups around the Bay Area to get updates and more exposure. You should see if there are groups around your area too with monthly meetings.

Which Bay Area R User group have you found to be the best, Link? Someone in the IB department here at Berkeley started a listserv, but very few people contribute. Sort of lackluster.

This might be of interest to a few people: http://events.linkedin.com/advanced-...-detail-detail

Hadley is giving a free webinar about ggplot2 on December 1st. It's free but only the first 100 to sign up can attend.

Also - I'm going to sticky this so I don't have to search to find it next time...
