comparing categorical data within the same group

Help! This may be basic but I am trying to compare the responses to a (yes/no) question given to a group of people before and after an event. The group of people remains the same. Is this an example of repeated measures? Which statistical test should i use? I should say that I use SPSS and having used a book to try and find which statistical test to use, it mentions that tests such as chi-square should not be used for repeated measures but it doesn't say which one to use instead. I've tried searching online but am completely stuck - I don't know how else to try and answer this!
    Thanks

I could be many things depending on what you assume caused the change. If it some experimental condition you might run a within subject ANOVA. If it is a policy you might do an interrupted time series. What do you think is causing the change in the answers?

Thumbs up Re: comparing categorical data within the same group

Thanks. The change is due to an experimental condition. I'll try the within subject anova then. Many thanks

Hmmm... ANOVA assumes that the dependent/response variable is continuous. In this case it is dichotomous. I think you might be looking for McNemar's change test.
