Graphics fonts in formal articles

Silly question that may not have a definitive answer:

What is the general rule (APA 6 would be even nicer) for matching a graphic's (say a scatterplot) font to the main body of the font.

I often make my graphics (when I say often I eman always) in R and my paper/article body is times new roman (in following apa 6 style). The default R font is not times new roman. It looks good though and I think times new may not look as good.

Discussion? Thoughts? Rules?

Are you talking about Latex or Ms Word. My experience is font of main body and figure can be different. In Latex(at least in Linux) I was not able to produce Times New Roman, Instead I use Nimbus Roman or tgtermes. Latex is standard format for most of the stat journals.

I haven't worked much in WORD. Can we insert vector based graphics in word? like ps or eps format.

Thanks trinker. One of my non- quant prof was insisting report in Times New Roman. Actually apa6 was his criteria.

I haven't seen any requirement of common font for body and figure top journals like JASA , JRSS B and few other finance and economics journals. Those journals require the figures should be in eps format.

First thanks for the update on apa6e.cls (I am still using apa.cls but will change now). Second, I think generally you are supposed to have them in the same font for APA. The font can be changed to Times (I think) depending on your system. Alternatively, I suppose you could save the graphs in svg using something like the Cairo package and let the editorial team of what ever journal mess about with them if they care that much (or mess about with them your self in inkscape).
