I have made a survey with a 5 point Likert scale. One section is about student perceptions of the advantages of Distance Learning. I have 10 items in this section. Some items relate to independence, student relationships, convenience, etc.

I want to see which items (aspects of the learning experience) students view as being stronger advantages and which are viewed as weaker.

So I want to compare the means of these 10 items.

I think that Anova is the proper test, but my friend says that Anova requires an independent variable.

Is her thinking confused? Are all these 10 variables independent variables?
