Cluster analysis is used to identify patterns / types within data.
Your 4 types have already been defined. So what do you need a
cluster analysis for?
Kind regards

Hi,
In my project, one variable named Organizational Culture has 5 dimensions namely Employee Development, Harmony, Customer Orientation, Social Responsibility and Innovation. In SPSS, I need to configure these 5 dimensions into 4 types so that:
1. The highly integrative culture has high scores on all 5 dimensions.
2. The market oriented culture describes the organizations that emphasize customer orientation more than any other cultural dimension.
3. The moderately integrative culture shows average scores on all five culture dimensions.
4. Lastly, hierarchy culture show low score on all culture dimensions.
I’m not sure if cluster analysis can be used to solve the above problem. Thank you very much for your time and I appreciate any help
PS: The attached image file shows this done in an article.

Thank for your reply. I need to divide the five dimensions into four culture types based on the mean score of those dimensions - so that the firms for which all the five culture dimensions have high mean score can be labeled as having "highly integrative culture" Similarly, firms that score higher on the "customer orientation" dimension than any other dimension can be labeled accordingly, so on and so forth. I hope I could make it clear. I want to do it the way it has been done in an article, an excerpt of which is attached as an image file. Thanks![]()
It is as clear as before and my question is the same as before.I need to divide the five dimensions into four culture types based on the mean score of those dimensions - so that the firms for which all the five culture dimensions have high mean score can be labeled as having "highly integrative culture"
If you already have defintions of the 4 types, then why do you
want to perform a cluster analysis? Do you want to perform a
replication study? If not, you have to classify each of your firms
into the type it belongs. For example, something like
IF dimension1 > mean1 & dimension2 > mean2 & dimension3 > mean3
& dimension4 > mean4 & diemnsion5 > mean5
THEN type = 1 (highly integrative)
Kind regards

Hi again,
Thanks for your patience. I need to cluster the firms from which I got data into 4 types (highly integrative, moderately integrative and so on) on the basis of the score assigned by their (firms') managers to the the 5 culture dimensions. As a result I will have four types of firms which will have four different culture types. I do see some hope in the method you suggest in your above post. Thanks and appreciate any other ideas.
PS: Do I already have 4 culture types? Yes, they come from the literature review.
