    Test for Means

    Hi,

How do you distinguish between two-sample test and matched pairs test?

    1. On average, who watches more TV. varsity athletes or non-athletes?
would this be a two-sample test or matched pairs test?

    2. Do students watch more TV on weekends than on weekdays? Each student in the survey was asked how many hours they watched TV on the weekends and how many hours they watched on the weekdays.
would this be a two-sample test or matched pairs test

    Thanks.

In the first example can you think of any reasonable way to "match" or "pair" observations in the athletes group to observations in the non-athletes group.

In the second example can you think of a reasonable way to match the responses given by students for how much they watch on the weekend and the response they gave for how much they watch on weekdays?

Sorry I do not understand your question,

I know in the first example there are two separate groups, and in the second example there is just one group...i just having trouble distinguishing the two
