    t-test in SPSS

    Hi,

I am trying to make a t-test in SPSS to measure difference in age between a follow-up group (n=32) and the entire sample (N=61). I would like to run the t-test so that it compares the Follow-up group to all the entire participants.... how do I do that.
For the moment I have the following columns:

    1. Id
    2. name
    3. Age
    4. selected for follow-up (0=no 1=yes)

do I have to rearrange the data? or is there a way to do it otherwise?

    Thanks,

    t test

no,you have not to rearrange your date.
But, choose t test for indipendent groups. Then, select as your dependent variable the age and your indipendent variable is follow-up as you listed (define groups as 0 and 1 the two groups!)
In your output you'll find the difference referred as the comparison between the group 0 (I supposed those are dropped) and 1 (those are present at follow-up)..

    Ok?
    Marco

    Re: t-test in SPSS

    Hello
My experiment is on forgeting from STM. I have one group of participants and my hypothesis predicts that recall of verbal material will be poorer when it is delayed by 15 seconds than when it is immediate - 0 seconds. My DV is performance (score) of the participants’ ability to recall list of four consonants in their correct order and my IV is the length of time by which recall is delayed (0 or 15 seconds). There is interpolated task as well (3digit numbers). I wonder should I use paired or independant t test?
    Thanks
