Quick question is initial eye gaze always either left or right so that your verbalEML data is just the opposite of verbalEMR (ie if verbalEML is 4 out of 10 then verbalEMR is 6 out of 10)? If so then you do not need both variables.
Hya,
I video recorded 7 males and 9 females answering 10 verbal questions and 10 spatial questions. I recorded the initial eye gaze (left or right) to see if the question type is related to the eye gaze, as initial eye movements while processing information have been found to show which hemisphere of the brain is activated. I am mainly looking to see if there is a difference in terms of gender. I have counted up all the initial eye movements for each subject for each the verbal questions and the spatial questions. So, my data takes the form of for each individual - a total of the initail eye movements to the left for the verbal questions (verbalEML), a total of the initial eye movements to the right for verbal questions (VerbalEMR), a total of the initial eye movements to the left for spatial questions, (SpatialEML) and a total of the initial eye movements to the right for the spatial questions(SpatialEMR).
I have the between factor of gender with 2 levels and the within factor of question-type with 2 levels - verbal and spatial.
In the variable view I have put in 'Gender' and coded these '1' for male and '2' for female. In the next columns I have put each of the above 'verbalEMR', then 'verbalEML', then 'spatialEMR' and then 'spatialEML'. Then in data view I have put the correct coded number for each participant and then the correct amount of eye movements for each of the four areas of interest.
I have gone to analyze - general linear model - repeated measures. I am now unsure of whether it would be correct to enter the within subject factor name 'questiontype' in with 4 levels,(the above spatialEMR etc) in order to analyze what i need to, as the question type variable only has the two being 'verbal' and 'spatial'. But, if i state that there are only 2 levels, i can not compare the four areas that I need to compare....or is there a way that i can do it?
My tutor told me to do a 2x2 anova but my supervision with him is over now so I can not ask him any more questions regarding my dissertation. I am totaly stumped now as what to do and am hesitant to continue in case I am wrong,
Thankyou for any help that anyone can offer on this,
Vicky
