When the NY Giants won Super Bowl XLII it was their 3rd Super Bowl victory AND it was also the third time that I created a NY Giants billboard in support of their Super Bowl bid resulting in a 3-for-3 winning track record as documented in a News 12 video. NO BIG DEAL just mere coincidence, 50/50 odds RIGHT? Well lets look at what we have here...

1. 1/32 odds that fans of one team will win the annual billboard voting competition at TemptDestiny.com.

2. 1/4 odds that a team will win their conference division OR 1/6 odds for a wildcard team.

3. 1/6 odds that a playoff team will win their conference championship game (12 playoff teams 2 conferences).

4. Combine those odds of both the winning team of #1 matching that of the winning team of #3 on the same day. (That's what took place on 1-20-08)

5. Then combine the odds of steps 1-4 with the odds of a third Tempt Destiny billboard preceding yet another Super Bowl victory resulting in a perfect 3-for-3 winning track record (Super Bowl XLII). What are those odds?

ODDS OF A 3-FOR-3 RECORD:
Based on the assumption that in order to get the odds for two events or more that you know the odds of, you just multiply them. Not being a mathematician, here's my shot at figuring this "tempt destiny" thing out. Here's what I came up with. Am I that far off or did I get this right?

The odds for the 2007 season would combine the fan odds 1/32 multiplied by the wildcard odds 1/6 multiplied by playoff odds 1/6 which = 1/1152. Then there is a 1/2 chance of winning the Super Bowl which totals to 1/2 X 1/1152 = 1/2304 (1/1536 for a divisional team)

Since fans did not vote during the 1990 season, the odds are solely team based first by division odds (NFC East) 1/5 multiplied by playoff odds 1/6 which = 1/30. Then there is a 1/2 chance of winning the Super Bowl which totals to 1/2 X 1/30 = 1/60

Since fans did not vote during the 1986 season, the odds are solely team based first by division odds (NFC East) 1/5 multiplied by playoff odds 1/5 which = 1/25. Then there is a 1/2 chance of winning the Super Bowl which totals to 1/2 X 1/25 = 1/50

To calculate the odds of a 3-for-3 winning track record you multiply the odds of all three seasons 50, 60, 2304 and the chances of this happening are 6,912,000 to 1!

6. And then finally, what are the odds of all of this (steps #1-5) happening for a 4th time?

ODDS OF A 4-FOR-4 RECORD:
To calculate the odds of a 4-for-4 winning track record you multiply the odds of all four seasons 50, 60, 2304, 2304 and the chances of this happening with another wildcard team are 15,925,248,000 to 1 OR for a divisional winning team 10,616,832,000 to 1!

I await to hear what the "pros" come up with. THANKS!
