    Symbol name / LaTeX command

    Hi,

I'm new in this forum, please bare with me

I've been trying to find out the name of the "follows distribution" symbol, but I haven't got any luck.

I know that most of the times we use the "tilde" as in:

    Y ~ B(N, p)

    but I've seen this:

So, what's the proper way to write this? And does the symbol have a name? does anybody know if there's a LaTeX command to write this?

    Thanks,
    Jorge

I think it is the symbol for "asymptotically distributed as".

    Thanks for the replies.

I tried searching the names you sugested but still no luck at finding the proper LaTeX symbol. I'll probably use the tilde.

    Thanks,
    jorge

I checked it in an old regression textbook I have,it is indeed "asymptotically distributed as". So you can use the tilde and an "a" over it.

Interesting. I generally see a tilde with a dot over it (approximately distributed as) where we mean 'asymptotically distributed as'. I suppose it doesn't hurt to be more specific.
