    Statistical Significance - Comparing subpopulations to populations




    I have a bit of an exploratory question that I would like an answer to if possible. I'm taking a sample of a sub-population (say, Colorado) and comparing it to a sample of the a population (say, the entire United States). Because I'm using samples, there is an error in each data set. Is there a way to calculate the statistical significance of the data from each data set that accounts for the fact that the error from the Colorado sample is also present in the United States sample? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated as searching for the answer online has not been very fruitful. Thanks!

    Since you have data from Colorado and from the whole of the USA,
    you could calculate the USA-without-Colorado parameters for
    comparison with Colorado.
