    Matched Cohort methods/techniques?

    Hi all:

I've been working on a matched cohort type analysis for several weeks and am at an apparent stand still in terms of creating a suitable match. My population that I am working on is quite specialized which makes sense that I'm having trouble finding matches for these people.

I'm just curious if anyone has any sort of general methods that they've found works well for them in terms of exploring how to build a good match (things like caliper, matching methods....).

I'm using the GENMATCH package in R if anyone has suggestions specific to that. Personally I've tried playing around with numerous calipers (including creating my own caliper vector) and have tried to match on quite a few variables (about 35 or so).

General question, when you state matched cohort, are you trying to match individuals to create two like cohorts from different populations?
