Not sure what to do with data

    Hello,

i spent a very long time gathering data and now i need to write a paper about it.
Unfortunately, i'm relatively new to statistical analysis.

    I have
    1. one big set of data: >5000 texts evaluated by 13 indices. It looks like that http://tinypic.com/r/4l263c/8
    2. a smaller data set of different pieces of text (>1000) evaluated by the same 13 indices, that i need to compare to the first one.
    3. The first one is also separated into smaller sets by category of text. I might need to compare them to each other.

There are no hypotheses and, at first glance, there are no visible trends. But a paper needs to be written.

I would be very grateful for any kind of helpful suggestion on what test/analysis to do.

I would start with a hypothesis. Why collect data unless you had a hypothesis to test?

@Miner, thank you a lot for your prompt reply.
I'm not sure, but I will start with the hypothesis, that those texts are difficult to read. The indices mentioned above measure readability.
How do you think I should approach data from there?

There are a number of things, but you first need to solidify your hypothesis. Do you want to compare these against a readability standard, against a control group or other?

Since you have 13 indices, you will need a multivariate approach. I would probably start with a Factor Analysis to reduce the number of indices.
