    Determining Course Selection Based on Mean and Standard Deviation




    How would I go about in determining the best course based on the mean and standard deviations from the following data:

    Class 1: mean=88.7%, SD=1.2
    Class 2: mean=65.6%, SD=3.4
    Class 3: mean=71.2%, SD=.75

    Do I find the z-score and use equations to determine which course would be the better choice? Or is there another approach that I can employ to solve this problem?

    EDIT: I know that to determine the z-score, the following formula --->>> Z score = (sample value - sample mean)/standard deviation <<<--- must be used, but each attempt gives the same z-score of 1. Furthermore, using the formula for raw score, I achieve the same result as adding the standard domain to the mean.

    E.G. Raw Score = 88.7 + (1)(1.2) -----> 89.9
