Can Factor Analysis be used for non normal distribution ?

    Hi

My questionnaire is based on 300 respondents opinion on the benefits of implementing of policy changes for which I had used5 point Likert's Scale where 1= Strongly agree and 5= strongly disagree. On testing kolmogrov smirnov the data was showing non normal distribution.
1.Can I use Factor analysis for data reduction of variables?
    2. On using factor analysis KMO test showed values .70, I want to know whether KMO test in factor analysis is to test the normality of distribution ?

    Urgent help!!!!

You can do factor analysis on non-normal data. You have ordinal data (Likert scales). Some people just do regular factor analysis on such scales, but (at least technically) some adaptations must be used. See Joresgkog & Moustaki

Is there any links to show how to make adaptations in SPSS for ordinal data ?
