    Understanding A Basic Probability

    Hi everyone,

    I'm new here, so I apologize if this post is in the wrong forum or of incorrect format.
    So my question is;

    Assuming Person A has a perfectly average IQ. What is the probability that person B has a higher IQ than them? I was under the impression that it would be approximately 50% but I've been told this isn't correct. Would someone mind explaining, if not?

    You would have to know the distribution of IQ scores to answer this.

    The IQ distribution is assumed to be normal with SD=15, 16 or 24.
