    Linear Regression

    A simple linear regression analysis resulted in b0 = 40 and b1 = 3.
If one of the observations in your
data set has a value of Y=14 and X=8, what is the residual for this observation?

    Re: Linear Regression

    Step 1: estimate Y

Step 2: subtract estimate from Y

Step 3: residual equals square value of difference from step 2.

What will be the answer in this case? Is it 4?

    How did you get 4?
I don't have emotions and sometimes that makes me very sad.

    Re: Linear Regression

    y-hat = B0 + B1(X1); or

    Y estimate = Bo + B1(X1 value)

Will it be like the following

    40+3*8 =64

    14-64= -50

    (-50)^2 =2500

    Ans: 2500

This step is wrong. The residual is just the difference.
