Thread: Need Help breaking down a formula

1. Need Help breaking down a formula

I'm having trouble getting my head around this formula. I've always had a rough time with them and I don't understand why Sigma is on the right side of the formula behind an equal sign when mew is on the left already. Does the formula to the right with Sigma equal mew? If somebody could break the formula down piece by piece (aka: ELI5) I would be most grateful.

edit: I understand the middle bit as it's mean, median and mode.

edit 2: Just got help and figured it out. Thanks anyways guys.

The sigma is a compact way of telling you "add all of these x values together." So it's saying mu is equal to adding all the values and dividing that sum by the total number of values. They're saying this can also be written as sigma xi (sum of x-values) divided by the total number of values (n).
