Correlation Matrix table - Help
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for some advice on an assignment. Attached is the correlation matrix table I am to analyze. Questions: 1. What is the strongest predictor of teacher stress? Why? 2. What does the value -0.10 mean to you? My thoughts on this were: The strongest predictor of teacher distress is noted as a correlation score of positive 0.70. This score illustrates a positive correlation. As the amount of tasks increase per day so does the teacher's stress. The -0.10 value tells me that as the age of the teachers increases, the personal supervision decreases. This is a negative correlation, or an inverse relationship. Am I right with my answers? Is there other pieces of information that I'm missing and should be included to support my answers? Thanks. |

First one, you interpreted well (.70).
Second one, you cannot establish the relation based on the correlation. because it is not a strong correlation. Check the p -values for the correlation.( number of observations also plays role in interpretation). Also look the below that may help. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Correla...mply_causation

Thank you.
For the second question (-0.10) that is the only information I am presented with. If it assumed that it is a weak correlation, which it is, what else can I say to express a discussion? Is it a weak correlation because it it not closer to -1.00? Again, I don't have any further data - just the table and the question. Thanks! |

You can say there is a weak, negative association between the two variables.

Thanks. I guess you can't really say much about a weak correlation
