Best software statistical distributions

My question is from your experience which is the best software to use on data fitting with distributions?

R is the best statistical software for nearly any problem. If you want to estimate distribution parameters from a data set, take a look at the fitdistr() function in the MASS package, which is available from CRAN (and may well already be installed with your copy of R if you have it.)

While I love R and my prior probability of recommending R no matter what they replied was pretty high I still like to know what exactly somebody is going to be doing. There might be something out there that is tailored a lot more to their problem.

True enough. I just gave the answer I thought had the best chance of being helpful with the information we were given ... which was, granted, not much.
