Categorical vs Continuous variables

#1
Hello,
Here is my statistical dilemma.
I have a group of data comprising of several variables I am analyzing by help of SPSS v21. Some of the variables are discrete eg. Habitat, Marital Status, Employment, Use of substance. The 3 response (dependent) variables are essentially continuous which I cannot convert into categorical variable.
I was using Spearman's rank correlation for analysis of data until I was told its not applicable.
Could anyone help me oout with what test should I use in SPSS 21 for the same. Any help suggestion would be appreciated.

Check out, point biserial correlation. Which is suppose to be Pearson's correlation with a different name.

What is your objective, what do you want to achieve with your analysis?
Why did you think you needed to compute correlation coefficients?

With kind regards
