Correct Procedure for analysis of Drivers


I have some survey data which shows an effort score for interacting with a business. I am working in a programme of work tasked to reduce that effort. I want to understand (from what's available in the survey data set) what are the drivers of that effort score. This will help us understand if we put our resources into certain areas what return we might expect. I imagine maybe 5 or 6 possible variables I could include.

I have read up on regression, principal components, and factor analysis. I am not sure what procedure I should be using. If someone could advise what is the most suitable procedure that would be appreciated. I would also appreciate direction to resources that step through a real world example and interpret results etc.
