Correlation analysis - Crittical values still used?

#1
Greetings

I am reading about correaltion analysis in my old stats book and it says you have to rank your data and that you have to look up crittical values in a table using significance level + degrees of freedom and compare the correlation coefficient to the crittical value. However, when reading about correlation analysis in Minitab - Help it did not say anything about this, which begs the question does minitab do this automatically now?

Thanks

Most likely, "yes". Whenever you end up with a pvalue when using a program for any procedure - it is doing this for you. For practice you can always try to replicate the program's result by doing it yourself. But unless you are using software, you won't be able to get an as precise pvalue (to as many decimals) most of the time.
