Error #105 in SPSS 20.0.0

#1
When I try to import data from Excel into SPSS, I get the following error message in the Output:

>Error # 105. Command name: EXECUTE
>This command is not valid before a working file has been defined.
>Execution of this command stops.
DATASET NAME DataSet1 WINDOW=FRONT.

I have tried importing via FILE - OPEN - DATA and FILE - OPEN DATABASE NEW QUERY. I get the same error each time.

Does anyone know how to workaround this? I followed the steps outlined by IBM (see here: http://www-304.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21487973), but had no luck.

In my case, it happened when I tried to import xlsx data; since SPSS won't import formulas, I would copy-paste the values (only the values, no formulas) on a new spreadsheet, try to import and get the error. If you select the whole spreadsheet (click at the left upper corner), then go to Edit -> Links… you'll find this new spreadsheet is linked to the first one. Select the links and then click Break Links. This should fix the problem. I hope it helps :D
