Hamming distance for Presence-Absence

#1
Hi,

I am trying to compare species presents into specific areas and look for comparison. I don't have aboundance data but Presence-absence in the form 0/1. So I have a matrix like this :
specie area1 area2 area3 area4
A 1 1 0 1
B 0 0 0 0
C 1 0 1 0
D 0 1 1 1
E 0 1 1 0
F 0 0 0 1
G 1 1 1 0
H 1 0 0 1
I 0 0 1 1
L 1 0 1 0

I have run hamming distance into R package e1071 and now I have the distance for the differnt areas.

Q: my question is how do I calculate the percentage of difference between the areas?
should I use this formula?

{HD/[( n species in area 1)+(n species in area 2)]}*100

Or is there another way?
Also does anyone know a way to represent it graphically?

Cheers
