# How to measure the language affects the performance of the subject?

I have a group of 100 students. Some of them use English to attempt the Math Paper in English; some of them use Chinese(mother language) to attempt the same Math Paper in Chinese. I have their results of MATH paper as well as their English level and Chinese level.

how can do I statistical test to test whether they use Chinese to attempt is better than they use English or vice versa?

Data are something like this:
ID Math C/E Chinese level English level
1. 60. C. 3. 2
2. 70. C. 4. 4
3. 54. E. 3. 5.
4. 62. E. 2. 4 etc

How does it come that some have a lower level in their mother language (Chinese) than in English?

How many different levels can be found in the present sample?

Maybe their Mother language not always better than English, 5 level for each language, thx

And what were the actual English levels for thoose who chose English,
and the Chinese levels for those who chose Chinese? Was ist also from
1 to 5?

Yes, can say in the level with 1 is lowest and 5 is highest, it reflects the actual English and Chinese proficiency. So can draw any conclusions from their corresponding math result?

You could try a two-factorial analysis of variance. One factor is "language used" (2 levels)
and one factor is "proficiency in the language used".
