How to segment customers by demographic data to maximize profit?

#1
I have a data set with profit for each customer (in some cases it is negative) as well as various demographic categorical variables (gender, age brackets, income brackets, type of education etc.).

How can I find which segments were most profitable?

Context and details are missing, I am afraid (e.g. how many datasets you have, or what business you are referring to, or why and to which end you want to have an answer to that question). You probably have used a search engine, so maybe you have already got some ideas which you want to discuss?

Thanks for your reply! It's just one sheet in Excel. The data is fake, I'm just curious how I would go about doing this type of analysis. I assumed this type of analysis would be pretty common but I can't find anything specific to it online. I've seen things about analyzing demographics in relation to survey data, or analyzing categorical data with regression, but I don't know how to analyze profit maximization by categorical variable groupings in this case.

As K noted we still need some more info as to how the data are defined, and also, how can (what does it mean when) profit is negative
