# How to type stats symbols in word

Hey guys, simple question, not directly related to statistics but I am trying to copy this Chi squared equation into word from a pdf but it won't let me so I am now trying to type it out by hand. It's the X then next to it there's a mini 2 over with a mini 1 directly underneath it. I have tried using superscript and subscript but can't get them to be exactly underneath one another. How do I write this out? Does it mean the same thing if the numbers aren't exactly underneath each-other but one slightly to the side?

I have searched for suggestions elsewhere but cannot seem to resolve this. Any advice would be much appreciated .

I didn't quite understand what it is you exactly want. Is it like this?

$$\chi^2_1$$

Yes, exactly . That won't copy out of my web browser into word either. Is there any way of me getting it/typing it into word?

If you're using Word '07 or Word '10, use the Microsoft Equation Editor. Word '03 has an equation editor, but it drastically improved in the '07 release.

Yep, great, when I eventually worked it all out it works perfectly, much thanks.
