Hey, does anyone know if a course in linear opitmization is useful to have if you are taking a master degree in statistics. It seems like I have to take a non statistics course in my degree(math or programming), we havent enough stats courses.

I say yes, but I'm biased towards the importance of using numerical methods. It really depends on what you want to get out of your program. If like me you want to enjoy more in the area of computational statistics and mathematical programming, then linear optimization is just another skill set to add to your resume. Will it make you a better statistician? Not necessarily. The subject has a lot of applicability in various fields, so it has pragmatic value.
