Enjoyed the article, but I found his explanation in terms of a hierarchy of modes of statistical thought (superego, ego id) unhelpful and gimmicky. You must need something like that to appeal to psycologist readers.

Nah. Especially since Freuds theories does not really hold (please correct me if i'm wrong). I neither agree that hypothesis testing only should be carried out if we know very little about the data we are about to collect. E.g if a new medicine is being evaluated, hypothesis tests should be carried out to test whether the hypothesis that it is not better than already existing medicines, can be rejected or not.
