multilevel models

No cake for spunky
I circled back to them, we are finally using them in analysis ....

I have some questions starting with this one. Unfortunately I no longer have the book this is based on. But I am hoping someone will know generally. It has to do with estimators REML and ML. It is a two level model.

ML estimation yields biased estimates for variance parameters (too small), but only matters if sample size is

small. If N-q-1 >=50 you should be ok.

Q is the number of level 2 parameters. N is the sample size, but I am not sure if this is the number of groups or individuals.
