Ordinal dependent variable and catagorical independent - which test

#1
Quick question for the Sages of the forum

I have a study looking at patients who have been injured with a score attributed - ordinal data
Each patient then might or might not undergo an operation - catagorical independent variable.

I need a test to check the hypothesis the higher the injury score the more likely the patient had an operation

Im just checking but I think the most appropriate test is a Chi Squared ?

am I right ?

Thanks in advance

You could re-formulate your question and ask whether
those patients with an operation had higher scores than
those without, and perform a Mann-Whitney U-test.

With kind regards
