PCA biplot

Hello all,

I am a scientist frequently using Principal Component Analysis to simplify large datasets. Most of my analyses are done with XLSTAT. I am now trying to make a simple "PCA biplot" that shows the factor loadings and the variable loadings on the same graph. I was told that "The simultaneous representation of observations and variables cannot be produced directly by taking the coordinates of the variables and observations in the factor space." XLSTAT proposes PCA biplots called " correlation, distance or symmetric". None of them is exactly what I want and I have seen a very simple PCA biplot in a very recent book about statistics (fig 7.7 in Statistics for Earth and Environmental Scientists, by Schuenemeyer & Drew, 2011). I was told that this may be incorrect. Can someone advise me on this issue?

Thank you very much,

Sebastien
