Relationship between 2 variables & 1 dependant

#1
Hi all,

My wife is busy with an assignment that is even giving me grey hair. She needs to determine the relationships between 2 variables and 1 dependent. The dependent is "locus of control" and the 2 variables is stress and well being.

We need to determine the relationships of the 2 variables as a function of locus of control. Can anyone push us in the right direction?

Hello!
To provide you with a plausible reply, please tell about the nature of "locus of control" -- how do you measure it? Is it on a likert scale or what?

do you mean in terms of something like a regression equation where-

y(locus of control)= X (intercept) + X1 (stress) + X2 (Well-being) + X1*X2 (stress*well-being) + Error

?

if those variables are composite factors for some instrument, you just treat them like continuous variables in a regression.

We need to determine the relationships of the 2 variables as a function of locus of control.
This sems to indicate that LoC is the independent variable, not the dependent variable...
=> 2 bivariate analyses, and/or
=> MANOVA, with LoC as either interval scaled predictor, or as a grouping variable.

Good day all,

Thank you for the feedback and I'll try and answer the questions if I can.

@kiton & hlsmith, it looks as follows:

Locus of Control is measured from 1 - 6
1 - Completely Internal
3 - Less Internal
4 - Less External
6 - Completely External

Stress is measured from 1 - 20
1 - Low Stress
20 - High Stress

Well-being is measured from 1 - 10
1 - Low well-being
10 - High well-being

So it looks as follows:

Members_______________LOC_____________Stress____________Well-being
1_____________________3_______________4_________________10
2_____________________1_______________20________________2
3_____________________6_______________15________________7
4_____________________2_______________19________________5
5_____________________5_______________5_________________8
6_____________________1_______________14________________9
7_____________________6_______________10________________4
8_____________________3_______________15________________1

What is the relationship of stress and well-being as factors of LOC?

So it looks as follows:

Members_______________LOC_____________Stress____________Well-being
1_____________________3_______________4_________________10
2_____________________1_______________20________________2
3_____________________6_______________15________________7
4_____________________2_______________19________________5
5_____________________5_______________5_________________8
6_____________________1_______________14________________9
7_____________________6_______________10________________4
8_____________________3_______________15________________1
So then sample size is n=8? Or isn't it?
What is the relationship of stress and well-being as factors of LOC?
I am not sure whether I understand what that question means. Maybe they ask whether stress and/or wellbeing can predict degree of internal (or external) LoC?
