Hi, I am a research student. I have a quesrion about reverse scoring. I would like to know if it is a requirement to reverse score an items in the measurement. My measurement consists of those items but when I tested out the reverse scoring, the scores were higher as a result of the reverse scoring. In some instances, the respondent answer to the positively and negatively worded question was consistent.
Example:positive role models don't make a difference in my life. (negatively stated)
Positive role model help me be a better person. (positively stated)
The respondent anwered always (=5) to the positively stated question. They answered never(=1) to the negatively stated question. If you switch the one to a five, isn't the reverse scoring inconsistent with what the person responded to in the positive statement?
