utizing slightly different variables as 1 variable

I am running a path model, and one of my DV's that I wish to utilize is course performance. The problem is that across my classes that are in my dataset the original researchers included different measures of course performance. In one the course grade (out of 100) is given, and in the other the avg course test grade (out of 100) is given. Do you guys think I am justified in using both scores as my measure of course performance? By this I mean can I simply have one variable were course performance is a mixture of these scores.

Sometimes you just have to work with what you've got. You could standardize both sets to have the same mean and SD, assuming that the distributions may be different but that test scores are highly correlated with course scores. If in doubt, explain the problem and what you have done in your final report. kat
